Developing Sustainable Interfaces

Shape-changing interfaces are a ‘double-edged sword’ for sustainability. The combination of physical actuation components, display surfaces, and electronics, pose an increased demand on natural resources, and increased challenges for recycling, and later re-use beyond those already present in consumer-level electronics. Addressing these resource challenges are essential for the long-term viability of shape-changing interfaces and the health of our environment.
